R. J. Palacio

Picture
I live in NYC with my husband, two sons, and two dogs. For many years, I was an art director and book jacket designer, designing covers for countless well-known and not so well-known writers in every genre of fiction and nonfiction. I always wanted to write, though. I kept waiting for the perfect time in my life to start writing, but after more than twenty years of designing book jackets for other people, I realized that the perfect time would never really present itself. It's never the perfect time to start writing a book. So I  decided to just go for it. Wonder is my first novel. And no, I didn't design the cover, but I sure do love it.

SKYPE REQUESTS:
I have so enjoyed all my skype visits this year, and look forward to the few that I've already scheduled for this year. But I've decided to take a hiatus from skyping for a while because it can be difficult for me to coordinate these visits during working hours, which is when schools typically want to skype. I have started posted answers to frequently-asked questions on this website, and will answer questions on my blog: rjpalacio.tumblr.com. Thanks for understanding.

LETTERS:
To mail letters, please send to my attention care of the following address:
Random House

GET INVOLVED:
I invite any readers who have been touched by Wonder and its message to take the pledge to "choose kind." Kids, parents, teachers, just sign your name (no last names needed) and join the movement. Commit to choosing to be kind whenever possible. One act of kindness can make someone's day and, indeed, can sometimes change someone's life. Share your stories, if you'd like. Print the "choose kind" certificate and hang it on your wall as a reminder. Great for teachers.

Thank you, everybody, for all your support for and kind words about Wonder.
